RECAP is a charitable society that offers workshops in permaculture, fruit tree pruning, fermenting vegetables, composting and keeping chickens, among others. Their mission is to promote the sustainability, diversity, and resilience of the Greater Ashhurst and Pohangina Region, and to engage in activities that promote permaculture, the community's disaster preparedness, and enhance the community's resilience. They have a community garden at the Ashhurst Library and a community orchard (the Olsson Orchard) in McCraes Bush. They grow vegetables in raised hyper-tufta vegetable beds, and there are also herbs and edible weeds growing through the rest of the garden. Recap use both the library garden, and their community orchard for teaching purposes. The garden and orchard are for all to use.
